Last semester my school hosted a war ethics discussion. One of the more heated topics was whether or not women should be in the military. An Air Force officer (female) was arguing for, and a Marine Corps sergeant (male) was arguing against, except in support positions.

Soooo…. what are your opinions on this?

Here’s mine: If a woman can mentally and physically keep up with the men, then she should be allowed into whatever position that she wants.

Did I mention I like you a lot?

I agree completely. If a woman is capable, why treat her as if she is incapable? If you get to know me, I am huge on women not being treated different because of their gender. As a female that has been treated…unkindly because of gender, I think that people need to open up their minds, and let capable women prove that they are capable.

Something like innocent until proven guilty….capable until proven otherwise. Very Happy

Hate to break it…But I can’t think of anyone on the forum that won’t agree…

GP and Diamonds have gotten this lecture from me already, so they won’t disagree, I don’t think C$ or RJ would disagree, Usoldiergal, well, you can tell from her name, and CG already posted. Wackeynweird may disagree if I know her well enough, but I’ve never brought up the subject with her, Of course, I haven’t seen much of Hittokiri04, so I don’t know where the idea lies there…

Smile I’d say it was an easy win Razz

Actually… I have quite a bit to say on this topic. I don’t have time now, but will be back after dinner to post.

I agree with a lot that you have to say, Saker Falcon and Armed_Soldier. In fact, if we were discussing jobs, sports, or overall commen sense (Razz), I would consent with your opinion completely. Women have proven themselves time and again to be just as capable (if not more so in some cases) as males.

However, when it comes to active combat duty, I have to disagree. From the very beginning God made the male leader of his household, the ‘protector’ of the family. I believe it is the males duty to protect the females, not because we are ‘superior humans’, but because that is the way God wanted it to be.

If we’re talking about Military Science, Medicine, or support positions, then I think females should be given the same opportunity as males.

Hmm. I am not sure if that is completely fair to guys, to place all the burden and danger of protecting the rest of us on them. I agree that the man should be the leader of his household, but out of a marriage situation, I really don’t think that a guy has any more responsibility than a girl to protect others.

(this doesn’t have anything to do with the argument, I’m just curious, are you a guy or a girl?)

I don’t think of it as unfair. God created males naturally stronger so that we could protect females. If someone were to break into my house, there’s no way that I’d let my sister or mother try to fight them. If I saw a girl getting mugged, I wouldn’t turn to the lady standing next to me and say ‘Good luck Champ’.

I couldn’t live with myself if a girl got hurt because I didn’t protect them.

lol, as much as I hate being told I need to be protected, I’d have to say you’ve got the right idea.

Yes, the Male is the leader of the family, and the male is in charge. I understand that. But why make the males fight for the females if the females are just as capable? Like Fury said, what about Deborah? She was appointed by God to lead the armies of Israel.

I was going to argue that she probably isn’t the only woman allowed to fight, but I got to thinking. Did Deborah actually fight? Or was she just the brains of the mission? Much as I hate to say it, I think you could be right… Sad

I’m not really sure what to think anymore.

Lol, I know that if any of my male family members I care about or my male friends were going to be fighting, I would want to be alongside them wielding my sword Wink (Of course it’s all hypothetical, cos no blokes I know are in the military).

Well, think about it this way. If somebody broke into my house, my dad wouldn’t tell me, ” Go deal with that yourself.” He would be the first person to confront the robber, but I wouldn’t let him go by himself either. I would be right behind him with the shotgun!

No, Deborah didn’t fight, I think. But it was Jael who put the tent spike through the enemy general’s head, not her husband or brother!

No, we would both be ranged. He would have the pistol. I couldn’t hit a barn wall from the inside with a pistol, so I get something I can’t miss with! Very Happy
